| News | ![]() Instructors Our club is primarily taught by Sensei Paul Golz. Paul has over 25 years experience in martial arts, having trained in Ju Jitsu for over 15 years and Judo for 5 years. His interest in our style of Ju Jitsu started in 1992. He achieved the grade of first dan in Shorinji Kan Ju Jitsu in 1998 and was awarded the rank of Senior Primary by the Jitsu Foundation. He opened Edinburgh Jitsu Club at Meadowbank Sports Centre in 1996. In 2000 EJC left the Jitsu Foundation and affiliated to the Scottish Ju Jitsu Association where Paul was awarded a Level 1 coaching certificate and sat on the Technical Committee as a representative of his style. In 2003 Paul set up the Shin Tai Wa Ryu in order to further codify the teachings of the style. EJC was the founder member of the STWR. Paul has taught well over 1000 club sessions at EJC, as well as coaching at Regional and National level. He has been interviewed for radio broadcasts and also has conducted many seminars in Edinburgh on the subject of "Avoiding Violence". Assistant Instructors Sempai Claire Cotterill is a brown belt belt (2nd kyu) and helps teach novices and junior grades.
Sempai Donald Maciver is a blue belt (3rd kyu) and helps out with novice teaching. The STWR has very strict codes of practice for all instructors. They will be qualified in First Aid and Martial Arts Instruction, as well as voluntarily signing up for Disclosure Scotland. Typically they will also have a certificate from sportscotland in the area of Child and Vulnerable Adults Protection. If you have any doubts about the ability of any Martial Arts coach you should ask to see evidence of qualifications and/or experience prior to training with them. You should also satisfy yourself that the coach is suitably insured to teach. If you have any questions regarding any of the coaches at Edinburgh Jitsu Club then please don't hesitate to contact us. | |
